Featured Author Interview – In conversation with Moody and Passionate SilentSoul

It would not be an exaggeration to term my interactions with SS as dynamic, full of energy and interesting. It all began like that from the very beginning. Late last year i.e. 2011, as part of regular interaction with the Authors who submit their story at Ghumakkar, I reached out to SS. His first story was ‘Kaali Math‘ and it was greatly appreciated. My first experience with his mysticism was when I learnt that that Mr. Tewari wanted to be known as ‘Silent Soul’. Having a Penname or a takhallus is nothing new but usually it is in addition to your name or it exists alongside your name. Here SS wanted to be only SilentSoul so we said, OK, lets be it. We have no specific preference. Though I had the privilege of knowing his real name, I quietly played to the gallery. In the starting, there were some request to reveal his name and I am hoping that through this interview, at least that mysticism is going to disappear.

From his experiences, though I could guess that I am interacting with a senior person and someone who has been here for much longer then I am, yet the interactions proved otherwise. SS continued to surprise me with his agility. If his internet savvy and y-generation abbreviations were not enough, once he decoded a long comment trail and came out with an investigation report. Just like any lively and rich relationship, SS gave me the eons of joy and moments of nervousness. Amid all this the business was to go as usual at Ghumakkar with its share of Featured Author, Featured Story, Interviews and during all this SS continued to churn out winners after winners, conquering hearts, making friends and at times breaking traditions.

With more than 6 months from his first story and 24 stories under his belt, it gives me great joy to present before you the snippets of conversation we had with SS. Without any further ado, presenting SS in a conversation with Ghumakkar.

Ghumakkar: Why SilentSoul? Is the person behind this pseudonym actually silent?
SS: Long ago in 1999 I started a Yahoo E-group named Sadhna. It had 2000 members and was on top of the list then, with members from all over the world discussing sanatan dharma philosophy. I was moderator in pseudo name Silentsoul. Most of my friends on net know me in this name and I also love this name. My real name is P.S.Tewari but prefer to be called SS.

My soul is silent but body is not… so I like to express myself openly…all my likes and dislikes without hiding anything.

घुमक्कड़ ः आपने अपना नाम साईलैंट सोल क्यो रखा, क्या आप अपने छद्म नाम की तरह शान्त हैं ?
सा.सो ः बहुत पहले 1999 में मैने एक य़ाहू ग्रुप साधना के नाम से शुरु किया था. उस ग्रुप में तकरीबन 2000 सदस्य थे और हम लोग भारतीय संस्कृति से संबंधित वाद करते थे. मै वहां साइलैट-सोल नाम से भाग लिया करता था, अतः सब पुराने मित्र मुझे इसी नाम से जानते है और मुझे भी ये नाम बहुत पसंद है। वैसे मेरा नाम पी.एस.तिवारी है, पर SS कहलाना मुझे अच्छा लगता है

मेरी आत्मा शांत है, पर जीभ नही… मै अपनी हर पसंद नापसंद को खुल कर बताता हूं… पर शरीर से अंदर आत्मा तक कोई शोर नही पंहुचता ।

Ghumakkar: You spend quite a bit of your time outside India and, as far as we know, it is partly work related. Can you share more details of your profession & your family?
SS: I did my B.Sc. from Delhi University and now working as a sort of coordinator, presently wooing some Icelandic companies to start a geo-thermal plant in India, so that India can be benefitted with the green energy. My family consists of my wife and two children. My son Shantnu is M.Tech and working with a multinational company as chip programmer and my daughter Kanupriya is a B.Tech and is working with an international bank, both in UK.

सा.सो ः मैने दिल्ली विश्वविद्यालय से विज्ञान स्नातक की उपाधी ली व एक तरह से समन्यवक अधिकारी हूं, और आजकल आइसलैड की कंपनियों को तैयार कर रहा हूं कि वो भारत में भू-ऊर्जा विद्युत उत्पादन में भारत की मदद करे।

मेरे परिवार में पत्नी के अलावा 2 बच्चे हैं। बेटा शान्तनु एम टैक करके, एक बड़ी कम्पनी में इंजीनियर है व बेटी कनुप्रिया बी.टैक करके एक बैंक में आई टी
मैनेजर है… दोनो विलायत (इंगलैड) में है ।

Ghumakkar: You have been all over the world but you keep coming back to Himalayas. What takes you there?
SS: I myself asked this question many times, as to why should I not see all India. My only non-himalayan visit till now was Agra and Mathura in 1988. Himalayas have spiritual energies, they are full of excitement, mystery and dangers… perhaps this is the reason I, again and again visit himalayas to undertand the mystery of it. I also feel that I have some relation with Himalayas in my last birth.

Another reason is that I like cold and wet weather, which is always available in Himalayas.

घुमक्कड़ ः आपने लगभग पूरा संसार देखा है, परन्तु आप बार बार हिमालय क्यो जाते है…ऐसा क्या है हिमालय में जो आपको बार बार आकर्षित करता है
सा.सोः मैने स्वंय खुद से कई बार ये प्रश्न किया, कि क्यों मै पूरा भारत छोड़ कर बार बार हिमालय भागता हूं। मेरी अब तक केवल एक यात्रा हुई, हिमालय से बाहर, 1988 में आगरा व मथुरा। हिमालय में कुछ खास तो है उसकी उत्तेजना, रहस्य, खतरे…शायद यही कारण है जो मुझे बार बार हिमालय ले जाते है कि मै उसके रहस्यो को समझ सकूं…मुझे तो ये भी लगता है कि पिछले जन्म से भी इसका कोई संबंध है । दूसरा मुझे ठंडा व गीला मौसम अच्छा लगता है जो हिमालय में हमेशा कहीं न कही मिल ही जाता है ।

Ghumakkar: It seems that you have seen every possible place in the world. Is there some place that you haven’t seen but it is on your list of must-go places?
SS: Yes I have seen African continent, American continent, whole of Europe and middle east. I would like to visit Alaska…because Alaska always attracted me like Iceland. May be one day I would be there and you may find a travel story at Ghumakkar.

In India, I wish to visit Roop Kund…but as my health is not good, I am afraid if I would ever be able to go there.

घुमक्कड़ ः ऐसा लगता है कि आपने विश्व में काफी कुछ देखा है. फिर भी कुछ ऐसी जगह है जहां आप कभी अवश्य जाना चाहेंगे
सा.सो ः मैने अफ्रीका, व अमरीका महाद्वीप, यूरोप व मध्य एशिया लगभग पूरा देखा है। मेरी दिली इच्छा है एक बार अलास्का जाने की, क्योंकि वो भी मुझे आईसलैंड की तरह हमेशा खींचता रहा है। हो सकता है किसी दिन यहां आप मेरी अलास्का की पोस्ट देखें।

भारत में मेरी बड़ी इच्छा है रूप-कुण्ड जाने की, पर चूंकि मेरे पैरों मे तकलीफ शुरु हो गई है.. नही जानता कि कभी ये इच्छा पूरी होगी या नही।

Ghumakkar: You have shared your experiences about a lot of places. Is there any specific place that has impressed you with its beauty, culture, vibe, anything, above any other place? Why?
SS: There are many such places but on top of the list I would say Jwalamukhi and Badrinath…both the places are beautiful, full of natural wonders, eye-catching landscapes and above all full of holy vibrations. When I first visited Jwalaji, I was an atheist… but still that place caught hold of my soul. Next are Khajjiar and Mcloadgung

सा.सो ः ऐसी तो कई जगह है जिन्होने मुझे बहुत आकर्षित किया हो पर इस सूची में सबसे उपर मै ज्वालामुखी व बदरीनाथ को रखता हूं… दोनो स्थान बहुत खूबसूरत हैं, प्राकृतिक दृश्यों से भरपूर, और आध्यात्मिक कंपनो से सराबोर। ज्वालाजी तो जब मै पहली बार गया था, तब लगभग नास्तिक ही था फिर भी वहां की खूबसूरती मुझे भा गई थी… और वहां कुछ था जो आत्मा को छूता था। खजियार व मक्लोडगंज भी बहुत मनभावन हैं

Ghumakkar: You joined us in December 2011. How did you come across Ghumakkar?
SS: I was searching Munsiyari in google, and for the first time google gave me link to Ghumakkar and re-directed to Munsiyari post by Nandan Jha. The site impressed me a lot due to its format and personal interactions among readers/authors and editors… which is a unique quality of Ghumakkar. I had never ever written any post on my travels, nor did I have a blog on travels ever.

But, impressed by the qualities of Ghumakkar and encouragement by its authors (specially Sandip jat and Mukesh bhalse), I decided to write my first travelogue of my life and Kali Math was there published on my birthday.

घुमक्कड़ ः आप दिसंबर 2011 में घुमक्कड़ के सदस्य बने.. आप यहां पहली बार कैसे पंहुचे ?
सा.सो ः मैं गूगल में मुनसियारी के बारे में ढूंढ रहा था कि घुमक्कड़ का लिंक मिला और मैने नंदन की मुनसियारी की पोस्ट पढ़ी। यहां मै बहुत प्रभावित हुआ, विशेष कर इसके प्रारूप से और सब लेखकों व संपादको के व्यक्तिगत संबंधों से… जो कि यहां की एक विशेषता है जो और किसी साईट पर मैने नही देखी। मैने पहले कभी कहीं पर भी कोई भी अपना यात्रा लेख नही लिखा था, न ही मेरा कोई अपना ब्लाग था।

घुमक्कड़ से मै बहुत प्रभावित हुआ और कुछ मित्रों (जैसे संदीप जाट व मुकेश) ने प्रोत्साहित किया लिखने के लिये और मेरी पहली पोस्ट, काली मठ छपी।

Ghumakkar: In the last 6 months, you have churned out 24 great stories. How do you organize your writing for efficient and good-quality output?
SS: Good quality ? i dont know.. because it is the readers to decide. But I write my travelogue in one sitting and first I post the photos and then tell my story around them, with a flow… as if I am there and recounting my experiences.

घुमक्कड़ ः पिछले 6 महीनों में आपने 24 कथाएं लिख डाली। आप इतना दक्ष व सुंदर लेखन कैसे करते है
सा.सो ः दक्ष व सुंदर ???? ये तो पाठक निर्णय करेंगे कि सुंदर है या नही। मै अपना यात्रा वृतांत एक ही बार में लिखता हूं…पहले चित्र लगाता हूं और फिर यादों की कश्ती पर सवार उस जगह की दुबारा यात्रा करता हूं.. और यादों को लिखता चला जाता हूं।

Ghumakkar : How do you do your Ghumakkari ? by own car or public transport and with whom do you travel ?
SS : I started my ghumakkari with trains, then buses, even by scooters but now with age increased, I am comfortable with my own car only. I travel with my family or with my childhood friends only. I do not travel with anyone else… neither relatives nor new friends.

My old childhood friends, Vijay (friend from the age of 6), Laxman (friend from age of 19), Awasthi (friend from age of 20) and Pradeep (friend from age of 23)… these are my regular co-travellors and when we travel together we keep minimum budget so that no one feel stressed. I wish to thank these soulmate friends from this board.

घुमक्कड़ ः घुमक्कड़ी आप कैसे व किसके साथ करते हैं..
सा.सो ः मैनें घुमक्कड़ी रेल से शुरू की, फिर बसे, यहां तक की स्कूटर से पर अब आयू बढ़ जाने के कारण अपनी गाड़ी से ही सहूलियत रहती है. मैं या तो अपने परिवार के साथ घूमने जाता हूं या अपने बचपन के मित्रों के साथ. मै कभी भी किसी रिश्तेदार या नये बने संबंधो के साथ घूमने नही जाता

मेरे बचपन के मित्र विजय ( 6 वर्ष की आयू से मित्र), लक्षमण ( 19 वर्ष की आयू से मित्र), अवस्थी ( 20 वर्ष की आयू से मित्र) व प्रदीप ( 23 वर्ष की आयू से
मित्र)… इन लोगो के साथ अधिकतर घूमा हूं और जब इकट्ठे जाते है तो कम से कम खर्च करते है ताकि जो कम आय वाले है उन्हे बुरा न लगे..इस मंच के माध्यम से मै इन मित्रों को भी धन्यवाद देना चाहता हूं.

Ghumakkar: Within a relatively short period of time, you have already won the “Featured Story of the Month” and the “Featured Author of the Month” award. How do you feel about it?
SS: It feels good to be recognised.

सा.सो ः विशिष्ट बनना हर किसी को अच्छा लगता है

Ghumakkar: You have quite a few admirers at Ghumakkar. Is there any particular Ghumakkar author that you admire? And why?
SS: Every regular author at Ghumakkar is putting in lot of hard work and imagination in his post, so for me every author is featured and I admire all of them.

I have sensed some additional qualities in some people who have interacted with me here, and these I would like to mention. I always admired intelligence of DL, wits and sense of humour of Nandan & Smita, innocence of Vibha, zeal and diplomacy of Manu, devotion of Bhalses and Vishal, poetic soul of Jayshree, a good heart of Ritesh and knowledge of Neeraj on various aspects.

घुमक्कड़ ः आपके काफी चाहने वाले हैं घुमक्कड़ पर। कोई विशेष लेखक आपको पसंद है, यदि हां तो क्यो ?
सा.सो ः हर नियमित लेखक यहां अपना सबसे अच्छा देने की चेष्टा कर रहा है, पूरा दिल लगा कर… तो मेरे लिये तो हर लेखक यहां विशिष्ट है और मैं सबका प्रशंसक
हूं | परंतु अच्छा लेखक होने के अलावा, कुछ लोग जिनके साथ मेरी बातचीत हुई है, कुछ और भी गुण हैं जो मैने महसूस किये है… और ये मेरी व्यक्तिगत राय है .. कि मैं नारायणजी की विद्वता, नंदन व स्मिता की त्वरित बुद्धी व हास्य, विभा की मासूमियत, मनु की कूटनीति व उत्साह, भालसे परिवार व विशाल की भक्ति भावना, जयश्री का कवि-हृदय, रितेश की सरलता व नीरज के ज्ञान से बहुत प्रभावित हूं…और भी महारथी होंगे यहां परंतु मेरे सान्धिय में वो लोग नही आये।

Ghumakkar : Besides being a Ghumakkar, what are your other hobbies ?
SS: I like reading a lot. Prem Chand, Bimal Mitra,Sadat Hassan Manto, Ismat Chugtai, Tagore, Aurobindo, Shaw, Guy de Mopassant and Kuprin are my favorite authors….and spiritually I like Geeta, Mahabharat and all upanishadas. I am also a numerologist, play old songs on casio, do some computer programming and write poetry.

Photograhpy and listening to old songs of Rafi,Kishor, Mukesh and Lata, are also my favorite time passes.

घुमक्कड़ ः एक घुमक्कड़ होने के अलावा आपके और क्या शौक हैं
सा.सो ः मुझे पढ़ना बहुत अच्छा लगता है। मुंशी प्रेमचंद, विमल मित्र, सादात हसन मंटो, इसमत चुगताई, ओशो, ठाकुर रविन्द्रनाथ, श्री अरविन्द, बर्नाडशा, गी दे मोपांसा, व कुप्रीन मेरे पसंदीदा लेखक हैं…. अध्यात्मिक पुस्तकों में गीता, महाभारत व सारे उपनिषद मेरे पसंदीदा हैं। ज्योतिष में रुचि है, कैसियो पर पुराने गीत बजाता हूं, कमप्यूटर प्रोग्रामिंग करता हू तथा कविताए लिखता हूं। फोटोग्राफी व पुराने गाने सुनना मुझे बहुत अच्छा लगता है।

Ghumakkar: Would you like to say anything to your fans?
SS: Ghumakkar is a wonderful site and has many unique features, great authors and understanding editors. A author writes a story with lot of efforts and deserves at least a little pat on his back. So dont be miser
in leaving a small comment on the posts…this does wonders.

He is the first writer who wrote same stories in Hindi as well as English

@ Nandan,
Probably it is the first interview on ghumakkar in both the languages i.e. in English and in Hindi. By arranging a bilingual interview, you have have taken care of readers of both English and Hindi language. I suggest you to present the interview in both languages in future, because on ghumakkar some readers are more comfortable in Hindi and in case interview is in English they couldn’t enjoy the interview.

Dear SS jee ,

First of all many many congrats on becoming featured author. You deserved the most. Your all stories are wonderful and can be read again and again. I am one of them who specially wait for the release of your stories.
Coming to interview it was wonderful. I had lot of chat with SSjee on phone and video chat on FB.One thing I would like to add about SS jee is he is one of the most fun loving guy I have ever seen . He can crack jokes with great sense of humor on every sentence while in conversation. He is full of life . For every situation he can have a funny answer with deep meaning and real truth inside.
I wish a happy journey to Roopkund . You just try, it will happen.Thats my belief.

What a wonderful trend concieved and concised here in 100 seconder video interview with SS which is supposed to be displayed in future by the Ghumakkar Prakand Pandit Jha. Further more, thanks Nandan for enlighten the hidden qualities of feature author SS (a numerlogiest, a comp. programmer, a poet, a musician, an analyser/critic) to the ghumakkar family.

We enjoyed many firsts in this interview – bi-lingual, your real name, Nandan’s face . We came to know many personal things about you and your views. I have just joined this fabulous site. Good language and great ppl who know their subject. I do think that travellers should share experience to make travel safe and enjoyable as knowledge of the route etc helps a lot. I am still trying to navigate here, but one thing I need is email addys of the travellers so that I can contact them for some tips and advices…I somehw got Mr Jha’s addy and he was prompt in his reply but funny thing is….I am unable to find ‘him’ again. My fault.
