Jodhpur

The magnificent heritage city of Jodhpur dotted with palaces, havelis, temples and houses washed pale blue retains much of the medieval flavour and ambience reminding us of the grandeur and glory of days past. The imposing Mehrangarh Fort and within it the Phool Mahal, Sheesh Mahal and Moti Mahal are notable places worth visiting. Umaid Bhawan Palace (part of it is now a heritage hotel) and Umaid Bhawan Palace Museum exhibit the splendour of Jodhpur’s royalty. If you happen to visit the city during the months of October and November, you could choose to attend polo matches that are a royal sport, the Marwar festival for an insight into royal yesteryears or the Rajasthan International Folk Festival for music and dance. A desert safari could also prove to be a wonderful experience. Jodhpur is very well connected by air, railways and road.

Delhi -> Jodhpur ->Jaisalmer -> Bikaner Road Review

By

A road trip starting from Delhi to Jodhpur, then over to Jaisalmer and a return back via Bikaner is an amazing experience. It is always advisable to start the journey at the break of dawn to avoid the rush hour. We started around 3:00 AM (did I say break of dawn?) and were in Jaipur by 7.00 AM. The Delhi-Jaipur Highway (NH-8) is under construction for expansion. Be prepared to face a lot of mud & deep craters on the roads. We still managed to go maintain a speed of 60-70 Kmph and sometimes accelerated to about 110 kmph. Good facilities for breakfast and refreshments along the highway provided by Rajasthan Tourism & other privately held outlets make the journey comfortable.
