Read MoreWagah is the only road border crossing between Pakistan and India, and lies on the Grand Trunk Road between the cities of Amritsar in India and Lahore in Pakistan. Wagah itself is a village through which the Radcliffe Line was drawn that divided the village in 1947. Today, the eastern half of the village remains in the Republic of India while the western half is in Pakistan.
It is particularly known for the elaborate Wagah border ceremony that happens at the border before sunset each day. The Army checkpost at the Wagah Border has now become a popular site for tourists, who come to see the change of guards, lowering of flags and retreat of troops at sundown. The drill, choreographed with aggressive posturing and sabre-rattling, draws loud cheers from spectators on both sides. Wagah Border can be reached from the city of Amritsar by road which itself is well connected by air, road and railways.
